In early February, the management staff of Trailblazer Foundation and Trailblazer Angkor (our Cambodian affiliate NGO) took the Thiessen family, from Miami, Florida (USA), to visit a well. However, it wasn't just any well. It was the well the Thiessens paid for as donors to Trailblazer Foundation.
The Thiessen family - Todd, Victoria, Lucy, and Natalie - were visiting Siem Reap and Angkor Wat as part of their seven month world tour (see http://bigtrip2016.com for more details). We think their visit to Svey Chek village, where they met some of the Cambodian family who is benefitting from the Thiessen's generous contribution, was an experience the American parents and daughters won't soon forget (see attached photos).
Meanwhile, Trailblazer Foundation continues to provide wells and water filters to rural vaillages throughout Siem Reap province, our geographich area of focus, and home to the world renowned Angkor Wat complex of ancient religous temples.
For 2016, we have commited to constructing and delivering at least as many new water wells and bio-sand water filters as we produced in 2015: 65+ new wells, and more than 400 new water filters. Each well provides water for 3-5 families, and each water filter is delivered to a family.
This year, Trailblazer Foundation is particularly pleased to be working with Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy, the philanthropic arm of the international luxury travel company. A&K has funded the construction of 66 wells, and an equal number of water filters.
Trailblazer Foundation is grateful for Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy's support, the Thiessen family's support, and the financial and emotional support we receive from all of our donors. We encourage you to join this growing community of people, businesses, and foundations who want to help Trailblazer develop ripples of sustainability through our community water projects. Then, when you are next thinking about an international travel adventure, consider coming to visit our work, and maybe your contribution, in action.
