The Transformational Power of Water

Friends,

“Through training from CREATE!, I now have the opportunity to change my life.” Maguette is a member of the CREATE! agricultural cooperative in the village of Walo. “In the past, there were no jobs in Walo and men travelled to the city to look for work.” Maguette adds, “Now, thanks to CREATE!, both men and women are able to stay in Walo and support their families.”

Access to abundant, affordable water has transformed the communities of Walo, Darou Diadji, and Gagnick Mack. In all three villages, agricultural cooperative members are now growing abundant crops of vegetables such as onions, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and lettuce. In January alone, the cooperative in Darou Diadji harvested almost 1,500 pounds of eggplants! The trees that community members planted in August’s reforestation campaign are also thriving! In Walo, the young papaya trees are already producing fruit.

Cooperative members are thrilled that they are now able to sell their harvested vegetables and fruit for a profit in local markets. Overall, community members are very pleased that they have had the opportunity to participate in CREATE! training programs. Maguette appreciates the benefits of clean, easily accessible water: “I used to travel long distances to fetch water for my elderly father-in-law. Now, CREATE! has removed a heavy burden for me. I now have easy access to water from the rehabilitated well.”

Thanks to you, the communities of Walo, Gagnick Mack, and Darou Diadji are thriving. Do you want to continue to make a difference? With your ongoing support, we can help other communities in rural Senegal gain access to clean water. Your donations will help communities like Walo, Gagnick Mack, and Darou Diadji gain new agricultural skills and economic livelihoods, made possible through solar-powered water pumps and gravity-fed irrigation systems in cooperative gardens.

CREATE!’s beneficiaries truly appreciate your donation to help them on their way to self-sufficiency! So what’s next?  We would love to have you get more involved with CREATE! Send an email to kaitlyn@createaction.org and I will let you know all the different ways that you can help out! Be sure to stay updated with what’s going on with CREATE! by signing up for our email list, becoming our friend on Facebook, following us on Twitter, and checking out our blog!

Best wishes,

Kaitlyn
