Dear Friends,
Good hygiene equals good health. Especially for young women and girls. AAI continues to emphasize public health in public schools. After the COVID19 pandemic ended in the Autonomous Muslim provinces of the Philippines, we have given special consideration to the health needs of young female students. AAI has made a consisent effort to bolster hygiene by building water stations for students to have access to clean water for drinking, washing, and brushing their teeth.
"AAI has assisted school attendance and performance to reach new levels of excellence by working closely with nurses and school leaders with clean water programs," states Principal Merhama, Ph.D. at Salih Yusah Elementary School in Jolo city. In addition, School Head Melda at Mukammali Elementary School observes, "AAI improves the strength, concentration, and overall health of children from areas of high poverty through the school feeding programs."
Through the generosity of GlobalGiving donors, AAI is able to help communities build new deep-water wells. We are then able to promote and encourage school-based gardens that volunteer parents, teachers and students create on school grounds. AAI provides seeds, tools, and supplies for the gardens which provide fresh food for school lunches - cooked by volunteer mothers, fathers and grandmothers.
"By building clean water systems and providing soaps, toothpaste, and other hygiene products - girls' and boys' health rapidly improve," says Nurse Naif at Sheikh Musafa Elementary. Girls are motivated to attend, more energetic in school, and their classroom performance is enhanced. In addition, the improved water delivery at each school and access to school lunches enables girls to experience improved overall mental and emotional well-being.
Poverty, hunger, rampant waterborne diseases, and limited public health plague the Philippines. We counter these maladies through our GlobalGiving donors who make these programs possible. We deeply appreciate your kind assistance. We could not do this without you!
