Sundarbans Coastal zone of Bangladesh is most vulnerable to disaster damage as it faces the first attack of any natural calamities. Recent heavy monsoon caused flooding in the Sundarbans coastal areas. The suffering of people is intolerable. Peoples’ house, cropland, the fish farm has drowned into the water. Coastal people are going through harsh conditions.
Initiative: BEDS together with Village Disaster Management Committee (VDMC) members are working and helping the people. They are taking them into Cyclone Shelter and Training Center and providing them first aid and food for survival.
Impact: In this harsh condition of natural disaster, they have got shelter and first aid which were their basic priority. People are now getting safe water and living conditions where everything is submerged into water. People are having safe life in this disastrous situation.
Feedbacks from the beneficiaries: A man who got support during this flood, shared his expression like– “I live beside the Sundarbans. I am a fisherman. As I am poor, I live in a hut. Due to this flooding, my house is fully submerged in water. My children are suffering from water-borne diseases. BEDS and VDMC members helped me and provide me shelter in Cyclone Shelter and Training Center. Now I can stay here with my family safely. I am very much grateful to BEDS and VDMC members.”
