Sundarbans Coastal zone of Bangladesh is most vulnerable to disaster due to the geographic location of the country. Every year natural disasters like small to medium scale floods, cyclones, flash floods, and river erosion occur in Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh and thousands of people become homeless. Most of the people adjacent to Sundarbans are the resource harvesters and they go to forest. Sometimes they are stalked into the forest due to cyclones and other natural disasters. Some of them have lost their life. There is no such weather forecasting availability to the poor unprivileged resource harvesters. So, weather forecasting and is a must for the safety of the resource harvesters. BEDS is going to establish a ‘Weather Club’ at Dacope of Khulna district. Local people will be able to get the knowledge of weather forecasting and other IT knowledge regarding weather forecasting.
For this reason, BEDS conducted a focus group discussion among the farmers of Paschim Dhangmari (under Dacope sub district of Khulna district) adjacent to Sundarbans to find out the problems they used to face due to the knowledge gap of weather fircasting. In the focus group discussion, they made a calendar of their cropping pattern and the problems caused due to the gap of weather forecasting. They have mentioned that they always suffer a lot due the information gap of weather forecasting.
