The coastal regions of Satkhira in Bangladesh are particularly susceptible to severe natural calamities, such as cyclones and storm surges. These incidents cause significant damage to houses, services, infrastructure, and human life. Cyclone shelters provide vulnerable populations with temporary safety or a place to stay during a disaster as a means of addressing these calamities. However, problems with insufficient electricity, water, sanitary conditions, and communication infrastructure often limit the usefulness of these shelters.
The purpose of installing solar stations that can supply dependable and renewable energy for lighting, ventilation, water pumping, and communication is to increase the sustainability and resilience of the current cyclone shelters in the Shyamnagar region.
The absence of electricity in the shelters affects their capacity to provide comfort and safety during emergencies. People could find it difficult to access or enter the shelters, for example, if there is no lighting; if there is no ventilation, the shelters may become hot and stuffy; if there is no water pumping, the shelters may run out of water or become contaminated; and if there is no communication, the shelters may be isolated from outside assistance and knowledge. For this to strengthen and resilience we start the initial measurement of the existing cyclone center.
