The smiles and thank yous we get from the girls using our ICT Center and Digital library for free in Mathare Slums gets us going most of the time. From its inception we knew that this was a great idea, to provide a safe space for girls to come and learn skills and engage in books throughout the day and during their free time. We have so far created the platform for these girls also to be attached to mentors.
On the digital library end, we have girls in primary school who use the facility every evening to do their school homework, search the internet, and read books on the computers.
For the ICT Center, we admit girls who have just cleared their high school and do not have anywhere else to go due to financial constraints despite performing well. We take them in and teach them basic computer skills, then coding and website and graphics design.
