Dear Friend,
I hope this message finds you well.
Technology is changing our world, and thanks to generous donors like you, we are able to create opportunities for millions of young people to learn and create using digital technologies. Here are a few highlights and exciting updates since our last update:
Happy Birthday CoderDojo!
Sunday, 23 July, marked 12 years of CoderDojo! Since the first Dojo launched in Ireland, thousands of Dojo events have taken place, thanks to thousands of volunteers in 115 countries around the world! Through their efforts, almost 50,000 young people have been empowered to create with technology, which is a remarkable milestone.
As part of the celebration, we asked volunteers to send us stories, photos and videos about their experiences. One Dojo leader wrote, ‘We're not just creating coders; we're nurturing young leaders with the power to make a real difference in the world. And we're doing it all while cracking some coding jokes along the way!’
Meet, Learn, Make
At the end of September, we held a ‘Meet, Learn, Make’ training event for CoderDojo volunteers across the island of Ireland. 40 community members from 18 different clubs and across 13 counties, north and south of the border, took part in training and discussions with the CoderDojo team. Workshops included practical training in AI and machine learning, physical computing with the Micro:bit and Raspberry Pi Pico and Unity.
After the event, 100% of attendees agreed that they felt more confident to run their Dojo. One volunteer wrote, ‘I was not expecting to find so many kindred souls in one place who would be so open, generous and respectful about sharing their experiences, learning and struggles.’ Overall, it was a great day for both the trainers and volunteers, who enjoyed this quality learning time together, in person.
2022 Annual Review
As you may be aware, CoderDojo forms part of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. We are delighted to share some wider updates in our 2022 Annual Review. It includes information on our work with clubs, educators, partnerships, and new programmes such as Experience AI.
All of our accomplishments would not be possible without brilliant supporters and donors, like you, who help us democratise access to computing education. One of the young people who has benefitted from this is Jay. His digital-making journey began when he attended his local CoderDojo club. You can learn more about Jay’s story here.
We look forward to continuing our work across the globe, particularly with the CoderDojo community.
With gratitude and until next time,
Emily
