Give at-risk Colombian children a safe home

"No more missed school!", said 8 years old Freddy,* who lived with his mother and older brother in a very poor neighborhood in the southeast of Bogotá. He spent a year without going to school because his mother was seriously ill and for that, his brother, who had to take care of him, gave him to the foundation 5 months ago. He came malnourished and with a deep sadness. Here at the Foundation’s home, he went back to school and cannot hide the happiness of wearing the uniform and attending his favorite science class. Today, he gained weight and now waits patiently for his mother to recover and leave the hospital while enjoying nutrition, care and love.  

Thanks to the generous support of individual donors like you, we have been able to help many other children overcome very difficult situations of helplessness and abandonment, which lead them to seek solutions on the streets, drugs or violence. In Colombia 17.908 boys and girls, were victims of violence and abuse during 2016, 48 sexual assaults a day, cold and harsh figures that show the disturbing reality that our kids are living.

Being away of their parents is not easy for them, but their involvement in artistic, pedagogical and sports activities help them overcome temporarily the feeling of abandonment. With your donations we can acquire the elements and materials to teach the children new things, so that they will feel more capable and happy. However, we still need your help. The sixty-three boys and girls living in Nuevo Amanecer home daily have to go to different schools located far away from each other. This issue means that the children have to remain hours in the single bus that we have, considering the very hard traffic and mobilization conditions in Bogotá. This year, it is urgent to change the bus and we have raised most part of the required money, but we are still missing less than half of the total amount.
