BONDING EXPERIENCES

By Patricia Gonzalez L | Community Relations Manager

Strong communities Abvvies'goal
Strong communities Abvvies'goal

Meaningful volunteering, one goal together:

Little by little, transforming the way our children see the world!

We would like to share with you inspiring examples of people making the world a better place. This year, we had many helping hands and proactive teams in the homes of our programs, volunteers sent by corporate companies that care. People committed to the cause of children, people understanding the urgent need to return benefits received to favor less advantaged communities, millennials wanting to transform the perception of poverty and exclusion, and wanting to close the gaps of inequality and lack of opportunity.

Despite the difficult situation concerning the youth of our country, the violence children and adolescents experience on the streets, in their own homes and even via the internet, we believe that together we can change this generation’s way of thinking and start creating a friendlier and more equal environment for them. According to ICBF, Colombian Family Welfare Institute figures, during this year, 7106 cases of child abuse have been reported.

We are thankful for every single helping hand, because it feels great to experience the support of so many people, all of whom are united in our mission to protect the dreams of these children and prevent them from being destroyed by anything or anyone.

These are the people we had:

UPS Volunteers

Forty-five UPS employees, an international Courier service, passionate about making the world a better place, under their social responsibility slogan "United As One Making a Difference "donated materials and painted the “Nuevo Amanecer” house with their own hands.

Abbvie Volunteers

During their "Week of Possibilities”, we were honored to receive 50 employees from Abbvie, a biopharmaceutical company with focus on research, in our “Nuevo Amanecer” program. They made many beautiful changes to the house: they built tables, chairs, and a greenhouse; they planted a garden, and taught the children about pharmaceutical chemistry.

Rotterdam School of Management

A group of students from RSM visited Colombia for a consulting project, and wanted to support Colombia’s most vulnerable children. They spent an afternoon playing with our children and brought them balls and school supplies.

Chiropractic Worldwide Missions

A group of 28 chiropractors from all over the world came to our programs to train the children and teach them about the importance of taking care of their spines and nervous systems as an important part of wellbeing.

All of these teamwork is very encouraging, it inspires us to keep our hard work considering that many children in Colombia still experience  extreme poverty, child marriage, prostitution, internal displacement,  drugs consumption and many other challenges. The figures of child abuse are every day worst and we have the missionary commitment to protect these children and reestablish their fundamentals rights during  their stay at our programs or while they can return safely to their families.

Now, that you have been an important part of this Globalgiving challenge, you can continue helping with confidence an organization equipped with the best tools for doing it right and with love.

So, if you're thinking on making your contribution for the end of the year, this #GivingTuesday, November 28th, GlobalGiving projects will receive a proportional match on donations for 24 hours  (00:00:01 - 23:59:59 EST) This is in fact a great chance to increase your efforts! https://www.givingtuesday.org/

Thanks again for your ongoing support,
