In January 2025, CAMELEON successfully organized "Le Grand Procès du Déni" (The Great Trial of Denial), a powerful advocacy event aimed at raising awareness about child abuse and the barriers to justice for survivors. This initiative brought together legal experts, child protection advocates, survivors, and the general public to shed light on the challenges faced by victims of sexual violence, particularly in accessing justice.
Event Highlights
The event took the form of a mock trial, where different stakeholders reenacted real-life scenarios demonstrating how institutional, societal, and cultural denial hinder justice for child abuse survivors.
Key components included:
Testimonies and Role Plays: Survivors and actors presented cases highlighting the struggles of children seeking justice.
Expert Panel Discussions: Legal professionals and child rights advocates analyzed the systemic gaps and proposed solutions.
Impact and Outcomes
Raised Public Awareness: The event reached hundreds of attendees and thousands more through media coverage and social media engagement.
Strengthened Advocacy Efforts: It reinforced CAMELEON’s ongoing campaigns to improve legislation and law enforcement in cases of child abuse.
Empowered Survivors: By sharing their stories, survivors contributed to breaking the silence and stigma surrounding sexual violence.
Conclusion & Next Steps
"Le Grand Procès du Déni" was a crucial step in challenging harmful narratives and advocating for stronger legal protections for children. Moving forward, CAMELEON will continue to engage stakeholders, push for policy reforms, and support survivors through legal aid and psychological assistance.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to GlobalGiving and all our supporters for making this impactful event possible. Together, we are creating a safer world for children.
