Dear Women for Conservation Family,
We are thrilled to share the progress of our project, Community Conservation for Andean Bears in Bolivia, as we work towards our 2024 grant goal of $15,000. We are proud to report significant achievements in protecting critical habitat for threatened Andean Spectacled bears across five Women for Conservation project sites.
Project Highlights:
Addressing Human-Wildlife Conflict: Human-wildlife conflict poses a significant threat to Andean Bears in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Through our partnership with Programa Jucumari, we are actively working to mitigate this conflict. Using ArcGIS mapping, we identify bear habitats and grazing lands, urging ranchers to relocate cattle. By engaging local communities in discussions, we advocate for the formal protection of these habitats.
Empowering Women through Sustainable Weaving: Our sustainable weaving program is empowering women economically while fostering biodiversity awareness. This initiative not only provides women with a sustainable income but also plays a crucial role in building harmony between communities and Andean Bears.
Progress Towards Long-Term Impact:
Decreased Negative Perceptions: Through education and awareness programs, we have seen a decrease in negative perceptions towards Andean Bears, paving the way for their conservation.
