Promoting Environmental Education and Ecotourism through Collaboration

By Aziz Rahmouni | HAF Nursery Coordinator

Over the course of two days, the Tazekka National Park, as part of a division within the National Agency of Water and Forests, hosted a workshop aimed at shaping a comprehensive framework for an environmental education and ecotourism program. Among the participants was the High Atlas Foundation (HAF), which presented its initiatives, activities, and long-term vision–programs that can be effectively leveraged to support sustainable development.

These efforts are designed to improve the living conditions of local communities, enhance individual livelihoods, and promote the acquisition of environmental knowledge, practical skills, and a culture of collective engagement.

HAF’s experience in this field drew particular admiration from participants, especially its work in environmental education. Through activities carried out in its tree nurseries, the Foundation reaches students, local associations, cooperatives, and surrounding communities, offering hands-on learning opportunities closely connected to nature.

At the heart of these programs lies a clear objective: to cultivate environmental awareness among these groups, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to interact responsibly with their ecosystems. By bringing people closer to their natural surroundings, these initiatives help foster a lasting relationship grounded in respect for nature.

Participants also expressed strong interest in strengthening collaboration with HAF, calling for continued support with local communities within the park. This includes the further provision of fruit tree seedlings and broader access to HAF’s empowerment and natural resource management activities, particularly in partnership with women’s groups and educational centers. HAF is dedicated to expanding its partnerships in these areas.
