On this World Tuberculosis Day, 24 March, we highlight how the citizens of Balti are engaged in easing the effects of tuberculosis (TB) in their communities.
Students at Ion Creanga High School in Balti once again displayed their concern for vulnerable families in their city. The Council of Students requested to use Speranta Terrei’s Centre for Tuberculosis Patients to distribute school and other supplies to children in need. We were happy to host this and selected children from families contending with the lasting burden of TB.
Ion Creanga High School’s Council of Students raised 2500 lei (Moldovan currency) in donations and purchased colored pencils, pens, markers, sketch books, modeling clay, and water colors. In early March, students Madalina and Damiana along with their teacher, Irina, packed these into folders and presented to 25 children aged 6 to 11. The children and parents gathered in our Centre’s conference room and spent time together drawing and chatting. The high school students explained how they were motivated to act, “We can only imagine these children’s sufferings, knowing their families’ circumstances, but we are aware it is more difficult for them than for us and we decided to offer them a little support, to make them feel nice and smile, to spend some time with them and know them better.”
The children were delighted with the students’ gesture, saying, “We have spent such a nice time, I have met new friends, I like very much to draw and I am very happy I have got new colored pencils and water colors, now I can spend my evenings drawing landscapes.”
Speranta Terrei and our greater community thanks you for donating through GlobalGiving. This is how we can bring our community’s resources to TB patients and their families and stand with the slogan for World TB Day 2024, “Yes! We Can End TB.”
