Our Community Project Management Certification strengthens community leadership and self-determination through La Cartuchera Comunitaria, a toolkit of 25 participatory methods for community planning, mapping, storytelling, and collaborative action. Developed through more than a decade of work with Puerto Rican communities, the program trains leaders to independently facilitate participatory processes and develop locally driven solutions.
Frontline communities in Puerto Rico are constantly excluded from desicion-making processes that directly impact the spaces they inhabit. Unregulated, excessive, and unconscious public planning and design leaves out the voices and needs from these communities, resulting in displacement, marginalization, racism, and injustice.
Learning from our projects, past citizen movements, and their victories towards justice, we created The Community Toolkit. The toolkit provides practical educational and methodological resources that help community leaders identify priorities, build collective knowledge, envision solutions, organize, and develop their own projects and movements.
The long-term impact of The Community Toolkit is to strengthen a growing network of community leaders who can independently facilitate participatory processes, organize collective action, and develop projects rooted in their communities' priorities. As the toolkit is refined, translated, and disseminated, it can also support learning and collaboration across Puerto Rico and the broader Caribbean, creating opportunities for community-led approaches to be adapted and replicated in other contexts.
