Project Report | Jul 19, 2016
Zambezi Sawmills with a new face

By Memory Mundia | Project Coordinator

When the schools opened in the second term the classroom block was all ready for use. This classroom is vital in creating more learning space so that the children have a more suitable space for their lessons.

Once the DEBS gives clearance the school will be able to introduce grade 8 & 9 next year and it will automatically become a government. Currently the grade seven (7) are the ones using the classroom.

Every July our partner Tag Rugby sends volunteers from Mill hill School in the UK to teach & coach tag rugby in a few schools around Livingstone and Zambezi Sawmills been one of them. Before Mill hill School came they held a fundraiser each of the students asked their parents to donate towards building of a shelter at Zambezi Sawmills Community School. From Monday the 11th Mill hill students were busy building the shelter while others were working on the food garden. Once the shelter is complete it will be used for remedial classes meaning the pupils will no longer learn under a tree.

On behalf of all the children, present and future, and their families we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in raising the money for the school improvement not forgetting the Tag Rugby team (Mill Hill School) who came all the way from UK to help; from raising enough funds to building the shelter.

We were also privileged to have one of the Global Giving staff visiting the site.

The last step of the school improvement is to build the teachers house. This will add extra security and a small income to the school.
