One of the mentees says: “Nor Luyce gave me an opportunity not only to learn computer skills but also be able to search and find more information about the profession I want to pursue. I could search and find a lot of information about the university, its departments and also about my chosen profession. Now I am ready to enter the university and be more prepared. I think this allows me to have realistic expectations that will meet the reality. Thank you, Nor Luyce for guidance”.
Nor Luyce provided 148 hours of computer classes and practical work to 58 mentees, 21 mentors, and 6 volunteers during the last three months. The resource center was available for a use not only to the mentees but also to the mentors and other volunteers of the organization.
From May to July mentees used computers and their learnt skills to write individual and research papers, search the necessary information on the internet, input data into a computer, and make powerpoint presentations for their classes and peers in the organization. As a result, mentees made and presented PPTs on their preferred profession.
The mentees conducted 35 hours of volunteer work using their computer skills. This volunteer work includes creating a database of meetings, check-in lists, assisting the project coordinator in preparing group meetings for the new mentoring group members.
As a result, 7 mentees helped the Project Coordinator to prepare materials for group meetings for other beneficiaries of the organization. Those meetings include and are not limited to: Interview skills, CV writing skills, Ethics at job-sites, etc.
Nor Luyce held computer intensive classes for 20 mentees of the Mentoring Phase. During that week, we could realize 84 hours of computer classes. The mentees gained a basic knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint Presentation programs. The training aimed to prepare the mentees for the Skill Building Phase for next year. This will allow the mentees to start practicing their skills as soon as they start the Skill Building Phase.
One of the mentors mentioned: “Nor Luyce is a place where I could not only help my mentee with gaining new knowledge and supporting her, but I also gained new information and skills. Before coming here, I didn’t know how to make a PPT. Thanks to the organization I am good at it now”.
