Dear donor,
On February 6th, Turkey was shaken by two powerful earthquakes which destroyed 11 cities in southeastern Turkey where CYDD has 8 local branches and 3600 scholarship students. About 12.5 million people were affected and 3.5 million of these were children below age 14.
Hatay is the province most affected by the earthquake and received the least aid. In the weeks following the earthquake, CYDD started taking humanitarian aid to families living in tents in rural areas in Hatay.
We now secured permission to take one more step to provide psychological and social support to earthquake victims and will be setting up a CYDD Community Center in Samandag near a tent city where 1000 families live. The community center will consist of three containers and two big tents and one container will be used specifically for computer coding workshops. The center will be run by CYDD volunteers rotating every fortnight for 3 months in summer.
In the mornings, every day, a total of 16 children of ages 8-14 will attend computer coding classes given by our volunteer university student trainers. In the afternoons, we plan to use the same space for computer programming workshops for students of 15 years and older given by professionals. These students will receive a certificate at the end of their one month intensive course which will enable them to find jobs as programmers.
Any support you give to our Project will help the children and families affected by the earthquake so thank you…
