Dear donor,
In our previous report we have told that we had finally secured permissions to set up the CYDD Community Center in Samandag near a tent city where 1000 earthquake surviving families live.
The CYDD center started its activities beginning of June and consists of three containers and two big tents. One container is reserved specifically for computer coding workshops as we have to keep the twenty laptops and the TV screen secure under lock when not in use. The community center was run by CYDD volunteers rotating every fortnight for 3 months in summer and due to the enthusiasm and demand of the participants we plan to keep the center open till February.
Every day, a total of 16 children in two groups of ages 8-14 attend the computer coding classes given by our volunteer university student trainers. The coding classes are so popular that as you will see from the photos some students even bring their younger sisters and brothers to class.
The summer conditions in the region and especially the heat in the containers is quite difficult to support but children are all happy to learn and the instructors share their enthusiasm.
Kind regards,
