Mobile Library Program Expands!

Pre-Primary Students Receive a Library Card

Beep, beep! Here comes the Kenya Connect "Magic School Bus" filled with books and the cheerful library team! This month we've added Kyeengai Primary School to our program with 141 cards issued to students!

The School Mobile Library program gets books to students who live far from our Library Learning Center and who wouldn't otherwise have access to books. It's exciting to see children running to the check out table to pick out books.

Before we issue new library cards to students, our Library Team conducts a Read Aloud story. At Kyeengai, Mentor Monicah read "Caps for Sale" and had the children joining in with the story. Sharon shared inspiration on the importance of reading and how it can help them in school and open new worlds and ideas to them. Finally, Rael taught the children how to take care of their colorful library card and the books they check out. What's really special about our program is that students can take their books home to read after school. Students in Kyeengai's pre-primary program to those in the upper primary grades were issued a library card.

Along with our Mobile School Library Program, students are also coming to our new library to check out books and for Saturday Storytimes. The Saturday Storytime program includes a Read Aloud story and a creative activity. Rael read, "What Zebra's Like," with students then drawing pictures of their favorite animals.

Librarian Esther shared, "I am happy that Kenya Connect is changing lives through books. Children are becoming smart and knowledgeable and new worlds are opening up to them."

Recently we created a new video to share a glimpse of our work to build a culture of readers. We invite you to watch The Kenya Connect Library Program.

Bringing the joy, wonder and knowledge of books wouldn't happen without you! Our friends and donors ensure that we can enroll more students in our library card program and are able to offer LitClubs, The Reading Challenge, LitMoms and Saturday Storytimes.

Thank you for being a Super Library Hero!
