BIG NEWS! Another World Robotics Olympiad WIN!

By Sharon Runge | Executive Director

The Champion Kilembwa "Lobster" Team
The Champion Kilembwa "Lobster" Team

Exciting news! For the second year in a row, one of Kenya Connect's teams won the World Robotics Olympiad in Nairobi in the senior division. The Kilembwa "Lobster" team won first place out of 36 teams, beating National Schools and well-funded private schools. Maxwell, Dennis and Joshua are the new champions. They were coached by Teacher Michael Muthama and KC Tech Team member, Brian Mbuvi.

Under the leadership of Director of Education and Technology, Patrick Munguti, Kenya Connect brought three other senior teams including last year's champions from the Mbaikini Girls  School and a junior team. All teams performed well and had an enriching experience participating in the event.

Patrick shared, "The Lobster team was intent on winning. They worked on their code and practiced with their robots on weekends and even once slept in the computer lab. They were determined and confident."

These opportunities allow students to grow and challenge themselves in new ways. We are grateful to our tech partners, Team4Tech, Google, Raspberry Pi Foundation and FII and to donors like YOU for helping us to provide the resources and tools to make these kinds of opportunities possible.

We now have after school code clubs at 75 schools. Teachers and students are so excited to have access to digital learning through your generosity.

We are so proud of the Kilembwa Lobster Team! They are eligible to participate in the International Competition in Singapore. We will keep you posted!
