Dear Friends and Supporters,
I am delighted to report on the achievements of our online English and computer classes over the past three months, with your support.
The school year in Afghanistan began on March 21. However, girls are still not allowed to attend. This is the fifth year that girls are banned from education.
In January, Aid Afghanistan for Education (AAFE) launched a new cycle of its online English classes, enrolling 42 students. These classes provide girls with a critical opportunity to continue their education, build language skills, and stay connected to learning at a time when access to formal education remains restricted. The waiting list has grown significantly. However, our current funding only allows us to enroll 42 students.
In addition, AAFE’s online computer classes resumed two weeks ago, reopening an important pathway for students to gain essential digital skills. These skills not only support continued learning but also create opportunities for future employment and independence.
A significant milestone in this program is the advancement of one of AAFE’s former students. Zuhal, who previously completed the computer course, has now been hired as a Teaching Assistant in the newly resumed class. She is currently supporting instruction while also earning an income, an important step toward financial independence.
Zuhal’s journey reflects both the challenges faced by Afghan girls and the transformative impact of AAFE’s programs. In a note she shared with us, she wrote: "Two days after registering in the faculty of medicine, a door that I had opened with years of hard work was slammed shut. I fell into a deep darkness of hopelessness. It felt as if someone had taken my entire world away from me. Today, I am proud to say that the computer teacher chose me to serve as an assistant teacher and receive a salary.”
Because of you, girls like Zuhal are not only learning, but leading. Thank you for making this possible. We invite you to share AAFE’s work with your friends and family so that more girls can have this opportunity.
