We are excited to embark on a new project at Neighbor Ape!
We are planning on funding a number of Master's students for work on wildlife in Senegal, in conjunction with the Department of Water, Soils and Forestry and the University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal.
Agents of the Forestry Department will be able to conduct their Master's thesis research at Fongoli, studying chimpanzees or other wildlife.
We hope that providing this higher education opportunity will further the cause of chimpanzee conservation in Senegal as well as adding to the experience and expertise of the Senegal authorities that we work with.
We are in the process of designing our project right now, and we will provide updates here!
This project will be an important part of the difference educational opportunities that Neighbor Ape has provided for students in Senegal.
Our dormitory project, in conjunction with the OBARAR organization in Kedougou, continues to operate successfully in providing rural village children the opportunity to attend better schools in town.
We continue to fund between three and six students at various levels of school each year in the Kedougou area as well.
Our education projects are integral to our efforts to conserve chimpanzees in the Kedougou region and to provide for the wellbeing of the people that live alongside them.
Only with the collaboration of national and local Senegalese groups and individuals can we hope to save the great apes that live at the edges of their species range in Africa.
Thank you!
