Creating a Brighter & Better Future

By Aazer Durrani | Head of Marketing

Based on a recent National Human Development Report (NHDR) by The United Nations Development Program, the current net enrollment growth rate of the country of 0.92 per cent predicts that it will take another 60 years to reach the target of zero out-of-school children.

It further states that a staggering 9.45 million children at the primary level were estimated to be out of school in 2015. “Therefore to achieve this goal by 2030…Pakistan must increase its net enrollment ratio to a yearly growth of 3.8 per cent,” suggests the report.

The study reveals that Pakistan’s increased educational attainment levels have failed to reduce the socio-economic deprivation of a significant section of the population.

Based on another report “Pakistan Education Statistics Report by AEPAM”, Ministry of Education Pakistan, there are 22.84 Million children out of school. Unesco´s latest published figures suggest Pakistan has the second highest number of out of school children globally after Nigeria.

It doesn’t get any better in adulthood, as Pakistan also has the highest number of illiterate adults in the world.

These two reports have confirmed and boldly highlighted the fact that Pakistan is currently facing an education crisis.

To top it all off, we have gender inequality issues in education.  Out of the 5.06 million children not going to primary school, 60% are girls.  According to recent country statistics, compared to a girl, a boy in Pakistan has a 15% higher chance of going to primary school.

Unfortunately, the picture at secondary level is even bleaker. Only 612,531 girls are enrolled at higher secondary level with a high dropout rate pre-matric level.

We need to make education a priority in Pakistan.  Education is a basic human right which unfortunately is not being fulfilled. There has been a huge disservice towards the citizens of Pakistan, which has led us to this crisis.

In light of the above mentioned scenario, Fatima Memorial Hospital is striving immensely to provide education to underprivileged children to achieve the new targets set for the sustainable development goals through its NUR outreach program.

Increasing access to education opportunities for out-of-school children is a key priority for NUR Community Outreach Program. Our education programs provide education to children displaced who cannot afford going to school at all, enroll new students in schools and non-formal education programs, repair and construct schools, and train teachers.

With continued support from our generous donors, we are able to provide education to these underprivileged children and give them a brighter future. We urge you to continue your support and donate generously towards the cause.

Thank you.
