Financial Literacy Education in Kalumbila District
As part of the Women Social and Economic Strengthening Project, the Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD), with support from DSIK and the Bank of Zambia, implemented a Financial Literacy Education initiative in Kalumbila District aimed at strengthening economic resilience among women and men.
The training reached a total of 115 participants, comprising 59 males and 56 females, ensuring gender-balanced participation and inclusive access to financial knowledge. The sessions were conducted across four targeted areas within Kalumbila District, allowing the project to reach diverse communities, including individuals with limited prior exposure to formal financial education.
The training focused on practical and applicable financial skills, including:
Personal and household financial management
Budgeting and income planning
Saving and responsible use of financial services
Basic entrepreneurship and small business management
Through participatory learning methods, participants gained a clearer understanding of how to manage income, prioritize essential expenditures, and build a savings culture. The entrepreneurship component equipped participants with foundational skills to plan, start, and improve small-scale income-generating activities.
As a result of the training, participants reported increased confidence in managing their finances, improved decision-making related to savings and spending, and greater readiness to engage in economic activities that support household stability. The intervention has contributed to improved financial literacy at the community level and complements ongoing vocational training and village banking initiatives implemented by CCCYD.
This activity strengthens the overall project goal of enhancing social and economic empowerment, particularly by promoting informed financial behavior, reducing vulnerability to economic shocks, and supporting sustainable livelihoods for women and men in Kalumbila District.
