COVID-19 Emergency Education Response

I hope this message finds you in great spirit.

I'm writing to give you an update on our progress at FundLife. Our team is dedicated to meeting our commitments this year, which include supporting vulnerable children and youth with access to learning support and training teachers and community leaders.

Within three months, we've been able to engage with 798 children. Of these, 446 are boys, 343 are girls, and 9 are non-binary children. Our play-based learning engagements have taken place in 16 partner public schools, two community sites, and one childcare facility run by the local government.
We're particularly proud of our work with the 343 girls who have participated in our female-centered activities, such as the Girls Community League (GCL) and tournaments.

The Girls Community League 'Step up for Equity' recently concluded with 101 girls participating in three categories: 13 years old and under, 17 years old and under, and women's open. The league has been a great success, allowing female athletes to participate in skills advancement sessions, compete, and showcase their skills, dedication, and passion for futsal.

Another highlight was the Girls' Community League: World Cup Edition. The theme of this tournament was "For every girl to play," and it involved 93 girls. We organized this tournament to celebrate the achievement of the Philippine Women's Football Team, known as the Filipinas, in the Women's World Cup. The event encouraged more local female football/futsal players to participate and gave them a platform to demonstrate the power of women in sports.

FundLife has made a significant impact through its initiatives, achieving the following:

• Delivering 81 football development sessions focused on the importance of play and child protection for newly enrolled students in the FundLife program. Meanwhile, continuing participants have benefited from sessions on personal development and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) topics.
• Facilitating 26 study support sessions to support the roll-out of the National Learning Camp of the Department of Education, which has enabled learners in public elementary and secondary schools to recover and thrive.
• Organizing two capacity-building sessions for public teachers, youth mentors, and youth leaders. The sessions, which were Basic First Aid and Life (BLS) Support and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) education through Football, helped equip the participants with the necessary skills to engage and respond to youth and children through sports, especially in emergencies. The capacity-building was made possible with the support of Tacloban Rescue Unit (TACRU) and Xylem Water Heroes Academy.
• Organizing a community festival with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) education that involved youth mentors, DepEd teachers, and spot coaches who underwent trainer training on using Football and Futsal to educate communities and children about water-related problems. The event was an excellent opportunity to inspire and educate the children about the importance of WASH in their lives.
• Conducting orientation and consultation for parents and stakeholders from new partner schools on FundLife's learning support and meaningful engagement with struggling children and vulnerable youth. The orientations also included discussions of FundLife's Code of Conduct and Safeguarding policies, which are essential in ensuring a safe and secure environment for the children.

FundLife has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to providing education that is accessible and of high-quality to the most vulnerable learners. As a result, the organization has established an impressive track record of success. Recently, FundLife signed a 3-year partnership with the Department of Education Tacloban Division, which will enable the organization to reach a total of 600 learners requiring learning support, personal development, and skills advancement. This partnership will offer a variety of programs, such as mentorship and training support to Senior High School students on Digital Literacy, Job Readiness, and Financial Literacy.

The partnership is an opportunity for FundLife to continue its work in providing access to education to marginalized children. The organization's programs have been instrumental in providing equitable play and learning opportunities to these children, and the recent recognition by the Rotary Club of Kandaya is a testament to FundLife's unwavering dedication and commitment to its core values. The award highlights FundLife's positive impact on the community and the lives of children who have been given the chance to learn and develop new skills. FundLife's work is an inspiration to all those who believe in the transformative power of education.
