Oxygen concentrators have arrived at ASRI in Indonesia!
Our team at ASRI is working to support the Indonesian government with COVID-19 cases in the country. In mid-August, thanks to our friends at the David & Lucile Packard Foundation, five oxygen concentrators were sent to support the Government of Indonesia and ASRI. These will be used to support patients who are experiencing low oxygen saturation levels, a common COVID-19 symptom. One concentrator can provide two patients in beds next to each other with life saving oxygen.
The clinic needs thirteen oxygen concentrators in total to cover all of their beds. Some of these concentrators will be shared with the government to support patients throughout Indonesia, so we are working to send extra units.
We are working to send support to all of our program locations, including Indonesia, Madagascar, and Brazil.
West Kalimantan, Indonesia
As people are reluctant to go to the clinic due to the extremely infectious nature of the COVID-19 Delta variant, ASRI created a team to bring care directly to patients' homes. This way, medical professionals can assist more individuals by checking oxygen saturation levels and providing in-home assistance to those who need it. HIH and ASRI are considering the possibility of providing oxygen to patients through this system as well.
Manombo Special Reserve, Madagascar
Donations will go towards food support (as the famine worsens in Southern Madagascar), door-to-door public health outreach, PPE and testing, oxygen, and oxygen concentrators.
Xingu River Basin, Brazil
All gifts will go towards COVID-19 vaccination expeditions, which will provide Riverine communities with their second dose of the vaccine. In late August, the HIH Brazil and partners' mobile boat clinic traveled into Resex Rio Xingu. These life-saving vaccines went to Traditional Riverine communities who protect and care for the Amazon Rainforest - their home for generations.
The HIH Emergency Fund is working because of you! Thank you for supporting rainforest communities.
