In Guatemala the school year usually starts in January, but this year all public schools are starting in February due to the pandemic. All classes are starting in hybrid methodology, part in-person classes, and part remote classes from home.

Due to the hardship that Guatemala is facing this year, education is different and everyone is adapting. Students from Santiago Atitlan won’t be able to share everyday life with their classmates. They won’t be able to share day-to-day experiences and everything will be different from past years. Covid 19 has hit the economy in the area very badly and education is directly affected because of the lack of resources.

This is why Cojolya and its donors are supporting students with a kit of school supplies to help them to start the academic year in a better way and adapt to all the changes.

Education is changing to be able to protect the students and their families. Continuing with COVID restrictions students are going to spend two days in classrooms with limited number of students, and three days studying remotely from home.

Jose Miguel has started his fifth year of highschool, specializing in accounting. He is putting a lot of effort and dedication into his studies, so he can put all the number skills in good use getting a job in a business.

Oliver, Misael, Dulce Maria and Israel are all in middle school, and they are excited about starting a new school year. Also, Hadas and Lidia are in primary school, they are giving it their all to continue their studies and succeed.
