As for the exciting news, the Byuka Bakobwa Project made its launch announcement during the press conference on September 23rd, at the Nyarugenge District Hall, where details of the project was explained during the interview.
The Byuka Bakobwa roughly translates to “Wake Up, Girls!” to use as a slogan to highlight the issue of gender inequality faced by young women and girls from impoverished backgrounds and/or are victims of GBV when looking to work in the non-traditional jobs, usually marketed towards men.
Thanks to L'AMIE and FIT to make this project into a possibility!
A total of 60 young women were selected and are then split into two training groups: one half in moto-taxing and the other in tiles and pavers training. During the press conference it has been addressed that the end result of the project will not only enhance girls’ professional and personal development skills and increase their understanding in customer service, but also teaching daily life skills, nutrition, sexual reproductive health and family planning and highlighting the issues of GBV towards the public.
On November 28th, 30 students of the moto-taxi training took the provisional driving test at the Kigali Stadium, bringing their knowledge to the test.
