Dear Friends,

The Covid-19 pandemic persists across the world and continues to affect education because of fear of contagious spread through social venues.  Many school officials around the world express fear that the risk of infections will deny children face-to-face classroom learning. To address this barrier to social and economic development in remote communities in the Philippines, Asia America Initiative continues to provide face masks and other hygiene supplies to school-age children, teachers and volunteers.

This program has brought relief to at least 10,500 children in the Philippine regions of Mindanao and Visayas. This has helped to reduce the impact of school closures that has been dramatic in communities where extreme poverty and communal violence are rampant. Children are invigorated through social interaction, literacy, livelihood skill guidance, and health support.  Most important, to succeed in life, children and must continue to have access to their school community.

The Philippines is especially affected. Religious conflict and natural disasters have caused suffering for millions of Filipino children. This program provides care for children who are victims of the Covid-19 virus and other disasters. Inter-faith cooperation teaches students the value of teamwork and unity with adults leading by example. We provide face masks, basic food, clean water, and hygiene. In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we are currently providing PPE, hand-washing supplies, and nutrition programs for more than 5,000 children.

Asia America Initiative serves as a bridge for action. Our social media facilitates transparent communication and dispels fear and myths that alienate communities who feel alone and abandoned. Starting with children, positive interaction and equal treatment of various cultural groups by AAI facilitate mutual respect and inspiration. We could not do this without the assistance and care of GlobalGiving donors from around the world.
