Over the past year ORG has seen The National Playdate develop as an incredibly impactful and sustainable program for The Bahamas with high impact and low costs. The National Playdate serves to develop socioemotional skills and enhanced parenting to the most vulnerable families, increasing opportunity early childhood development through play and communication in children 0-5 years. This fosters parent and child bonding and attachment — a relationship strengthening strategy which has implications on stronger more meaningful parental involvement across later academic years.
ORG saw advancements of the NPD plan, while adapting to the socially restrictive conditions of the Pandemic, with the production of a video promoting easy to use parenting skills featuring with the participation of four families. The video “The National Day of Play -- Talking about Emotions” was supported through the distribution of “NPD at home” activity kits to over 240 families in Bahamian Communities.
The kits, assembled by ORG volunteers, contained materials which could be used by families in conjunction with the videos, including masks to help children identify identities, coloring and story based activities, and snacks and beverages for the families.
The Kits were delivered across New Providence, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera through community partnerships. And shown on Youtube, Facebook video and Cable Channel 212. NPD Kits were delivered to local community partners including :
The Organization for Responsible GOvernance is excited to seek additional resources to support the National Play Date program and re launch in person community based programs as Pandemic conditions improve. Additionally, with funding ORG looks to produce 2-3 additional topical episodes which can improve alignment with National preschool learning outcomes to increase both usage and relevance to families as they start their children an successful academic pathways. Also, Further development can help The Bahamas to achieve and fill the gaps in national Early Childhood education goals which align with UN SDG goals.
