Yezidi Women Need You More Than Ever

By Pari Ibrahim | Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As global challenges cast new doubts over the future of humanitarian aid and development, the Free Yezidi Foundation remains committed to a clear and unwavering mission: to uplift and empower the Yezidi people, especially women and girls, as they rebuild their lives in the aftermath of genocide.

This month, we are reminded that even in times of instability, our work carries forward—steadily and with impact. From advocacy meetings with international partners to day-to-day programming on the ground, FYF continues to stand with survivors, displaced families, and those returning to rebuild their lives in Sinjar.

Nowhere is this more evident than in our livelihoods programs. At our Enterprise and Training Center, Yezidi women are not only learning marketable skills—they are transforming those skills into income, independence, and opportunity for their families and communities.

A LABOR OF LOVE: CRAFTING A UNIQUE CUSTOM RUG

As a Yezidi woman in Iraq, Sulav has faced discrimination, instability, and limited opportunities. But she’s determined to build a better future—not just for herself, but for her daughters and other Yezidi women. Her dream is to one day open her own carpet-making business and uplift others in her community.

Thanks to FYF’s ETC, Sulav and her fellow artisans receive the majority of the profits from each rug they create—turning their craft into a true source of income and independence. When you purchase one of these handcrafted rugs, you’re not just buying a beautiful piece of art—you’re directly supporting Sulav’s dream and the resilience of Yezidi women.

Watch Sulav tell her full story here.

GALINA'S JOURNEY HOME

image.png

Galina was only 10 years old when ISIS attacked her village during the 2014 Yezidi Genocide. For the past decade, she and her family have lived in displacement in Khanke IDP Camp, facing extremely difficult living conditions.

Last year, Galina joined one of the Free Yezidi Foundation’s vocational training programs, where she discovered her passion and talent for handmade crafts. From blouses and scarves to adorable Chonky Animals® like turtles and jellyfish, her work quickly stood out, and the income from selling them helped support her financially.

Recently, Galina returned to her hometown in Sinjar for the first time in 10 years. While she’s happy to be home, she hopes to continue doing what she loves: crafting beautiful, handmade items that bring joy and help support her family.

Watch Galina tell her full story here.

Thank you for standing with us as we continue this vital work. Together, we are making a difference, one life at a time.

Sincerely,

Pari Ibrahim
