Small Gifts Continue to Grow Seeds of Peace and Hope
During this reporting period, Meseret Humanitarian Organization (MHO) was grateful to receive a donation of US$0.58 through our "Cultivate Plants – Cultivate Peace in Ethiopia" project. While this financial contribution was very small, it represents something much greater—the compassion and solidarity of people who believe in building a more peaceful and environmentally sustainable Ethiopia. Combined with MHO's own limited resources, volunteer efforts, and generous support from local community members, this donation enabled us to continue implementing key project activities that promote environmental protection, peaceful coexistence, and youth engagement. Every contribution, regardless of its size, strengthens our commitment to transforming schools, neighborhoods, and degraded community spaces into productive green environments that encourage cooperation, respect, and shared responsibility.
Over the reporting period, MHO continued working with children, youth, teachers, and community members to cultivate fruit and vegetable gardens in school compounds, household backyards, and other unused spaces. These activities not only improve environmental conditions and local food security but also serve as practical learning opportunities where young people develop teamwork, tolerance, conflict resolution, and environmental stewardship. Through gardening and school entrepreneurship initiatives, participants learn that nurturing plants is also about nurturing peaceful relationships, mutual respect, and hope for the future. One participating school proudly maintained its vegetable garden through the collective efforts of students and teachers, demonstrating how shared environmental activities can strengthen social bonds and create a positive learning environment.
Although Ethiopia continues to face significant challenges, including conflict, environmental degradation, youth unemployment, and food insecurity, MHO remains committed to empowering young people to become socially responsible leaders and peacebuilders. We sincerely thank every donor whose generosity makes this work possible. Even a donation of US$0.58 reminds us that meaningful change begins with individual acts of kindness. Together, we are planting more than trees and gardens—we are planting the seeds of peace, resilience, environmental restoration, and a brighter future for Ethiopia's next generation.
