Second Quarter 2023

Having fun on our beautiful mountain trails
Having fun on our beautiful mountain trails

The last few months have been a very pleasant time for riding with fair weather and many of the local trails receiving maintenance and upgrades. We are so privileged to daily ride on a huge variety of trails of such high standards and surrounded by indescribable beauty. We often remind ourselves of how spoiled we are and thank the creator of it all. Lately, we’ve had much rain, and riding has become less frequent. We limit riding in very wet weather as this causes unnecessary wear and tear on the bicycles, often associated with high-cost repairs.

We are also glad to have our very first beneficiary back and serve the project as our mechanic. He has built up lots of experience and skills while working at various bicycle shops and with teams on bicycle maintenance, and now our team can also benefit from all this. Bicycle maintenance has been a big need, and we are very glad to have it taken good care of by one of our own who has become quite a professional. Some team boys are also honing their mechanic skills while helping with the maintenance.

Our bicycle storage container and surrounding area also received some maintenance with some team members' help. The boys worked hard and built up lots of experience in maintenance work. These skills often assist them with earning part-time income or even land them a job once they finish school (for those who don’t go on to tertiary studies).

We are excited about our one coach and volunteer attending a three-week sports ministry training. Twenty-eight candidates from all over South Africa are attending the training. This will equip our coach with very valuable skills to serve the project and even beyond.
