A day at the Call and Dispatch Center Ministry of Health Uganda

By Charles Ndyamwijuka | GEC Operations Manager

Birungi Alfunsi GEC ECP Share his experience while on ambulance call & dispatch work shift, Medical emergencies occur daily and history has it that emergencies occurred long time then. In the journey to Canan, snake bites and other emergencies are the reason many did not complete the journey. Today emergencies still happen in the community, in town, markets, churches, schools and many other places leading to loss of lives from treatable causes of death such as hypoglycemia, hypoxia, bleeding and many other treatable causes. A day at the call and dispatch and the work at the ambulance is such a day spent saving lives, even when not many cases are attended to, It feels a day where one is ready and on standby for that care that will give some one another day to live. That is saving someone’s mother, baby, husband and others, literary a life saved. Its thorough the call center that the notification of the emergencies comes through, trained team of emergency care practitioners (EMTs, Nurses, Doctors, ambulance drivers etc.) are dispatched to the scene of care. Most inspiration for the team is the good job done always of saving lives as everyone has a memorable case to share.

For the pass three months 3 Global Emergency Care ECPs working on a two-week rotation at National ambulance Call and Dispatch provided care and transfer to 138 critically ill patients.

        I.          44.9% of the patients were Females

II.          55.1% of the patients were Males.

Note: Having a contact for the call and dispatch for medical emergencies is equally an essential for living.
