Dear supporters of Safe Spaces,

A digital library seems maybe such an ordinary place to many of us. But in the Mathare slums it makes all the difference on a daily basis.

1600 girls have access to the digital library to make their homework, read books, write reports, use the internet, etc.. We see that this helps them to improve their academic performance. Girls who use all the facilities of the digital library, including our staff that supports them with their homework and projects, have improved their academic performance by 15 percent. This translates in three very important results:

1) building their self esteem and confidence;

2) higher grades lead to access to the next year;

3) higher grades lead to scholarships for colleges and higher education.

As the results are so major, we have decided to allow the access also to boys for 1 hour a day. For the boys, this has made the literacy rate grow by 10 percent.

450 girls join the reading club. They have access to digital books in the digital library. 95 percent of the girls have shown a 20 percent improvement of their literacy skills.

This is a report with many numbers, we are aware of that. But by this numbers we show the great power of the digital library in the lives of the girls in the Mathare slums.

With 1 digital library we already reach this great results. We are very eager to make the difference in many more lives and ways with a second digital library.

Your support will make a very significant and long lasting difference for this young girls. It means the difference between being informed, having control, building self confidence, relying on yourself as the change maker in your own life.

Thank you for your support until today bringing our goal closer and closer,

Asante sana,

Peninah
