DIGITAL LIBRARY AND LITERACY PROGRAM

By Joann Mwangi | Project Peer Leader

                                         DIGITAL LIBRARY AND LITERACY PROGRAM

                                                         ”Each one – Teach one”

Dear supporters of Safe Spaces,

A digital library may seem like an ordinary place to many of us, but in Mathare, it makes a difference every single day.

Today, the Safe Spaces Digital Library partners with 6 local primary schools and serves approximately 450 pupils each week. Children come to complete homework, conduct research, access computers and the internet, read books and receive guided academic support from our staff. In a community where digital access is limited, this space bridges the gap and strengthens academic performance.

The impact goes beyond grades. Through structured IT sessions and guided research support, pupils gain practical digital skills that prepare them for higher education and the job market. Our reading club continues to be a powerful tool for transformation. In these safe and supportive sessions, girls read, discuss and present their ideas—building literacy, confidence and public speaking skills. Many who once struggled to speak in class now confidently lead discussions and express themselves clearly.

With just one digital library, we are reaching hundreds of young people every week. Imagine the difference we can make as we expand access and deepen impact.

Your support makes this possible. It means access to knowledge, confidence to speak up and opportunity to shape a different future !

Thank you for your support !
