Project Report | Feb 18, 2026
Community IT Hub for Youth and Women

By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader

In our community, access to computers, stable electricity, and internet connectivity is limited. Many young people complete school without ever gaining hands-on computer experience. Women, in particular, face additional barriers to accessing digital tools and training opportunities.

Without digital access and skills:

  • Youth struggle to apply for jobs or pursue online learning.

  • Women are excluded from remote work and digital entrepreneurship.

  • Local innovation and economic growth are constrained.

A solar-powered solution ensures sustainability and consistent access, even in areas with unreliable electricity.

Progress So Far

Although we have not yet secured funding, we have taken important foundational steps:

  • Conducted informal community consultations to assess digital training needs.

  • Identified a potential site for the IT Hub.

  • Drafted a curriculum outline for basic and intermediate digital literacy training.

  • Begun outreach efforts to build awareness about the project’s vision and goals.

These preparatory activities position us to act quickly once funding is secured.

Expected Impact Once Funded

With donor support, we will:

  • Install solar power infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted service.

  • Equip the hub with computers, internet connectivity, and essential software.

  • Train over 400 youth and women in:

    • Basic computer literacy

    • Internet navigation and online safety

    • CV writing and online job applications

    • Digital entrepreneurship and freelancing fundamentals

Beyond skills training, the hub will serve as a safe and inclusive space for learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Challenges

The primary challenge is securing initial funding to cover infrastructure costs, including solar installation, equipment procurement, and internet setup. As a new project on GlobalGiving, building visibility and donor trust is an important first step.

Looking Ahead

Our focus in the coming months will be:

  • Expanding outreach and awareness efforts

  • Strengthening partnerships with local stakeholders

  • Continuing to refine our implementation plan

  • Actively engaging potential supporters and donors

We remain optimistic and committed. With your support, this vision can become a transformative reality for hundreds of youth and women.
