Dear Global Givers,
We are delighted to share an update about our project where we are training 500 rural women to become economically self-reliant. When a woman starts to earn, she not only has a way to support her family income, but she is also empowered to make informed decisions and is respected by her family and the community members.
Despite rapid economic growth in India, a lot remains to be achieved in terms of gender disparities and labour workforce participation. Many women continue to face barriers, especially in rural areas even to step out their homes and to go out and work full time remains a big challenge.
India’s Female Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR)—the share of working-age women who report either being employed, or being available for work—has fallen to a historic low of 23.3% in 2017-18, meaning that over three out of four women over the age of 15 in India are neither working nor seeking work.
iPartner India through it's Project Rakshan in Rajasthan has started two livelihood centres. At the centres women are being trained to stitch various types of clothing items such as eco-friendly cloth bags to replace the use of plastics, laundry bags, table mats, bedroom slippers, etc., and thereby helping them find alternative livelihood opportunities. Women are also encouraged to be part of various initiatives started by iPartner India such as Self Help Groups, avail agricultural seeds and fruit saplings from the Seed Bank and start their own kitchen gardens. In addition, various workshops and health camps are organised to help the women have the required knowledge while also building their self-confidence and have access to medical care and services.
For this, we urgently need your support to ensure all 500 women complete their training and are ready to join the workforce labour. Every support is crucial at this stage to make this project successful.
We look forward to your continued to support us as we work towards empowering women in India to become economically self-sufficient.
Forever in gratitude for your support,
iPartner India Team
