Dear Global Givers,
We are happy to share an update from our women’s livelihood programme. Most of the women come from extremely resource-poor background and with the outbreak of COVID-19 many of their families were on the verge of starvation due to impact of the nationwide lockdown.
We closely monitored the situation on the ground to assess their vulnerability in the face of
this humanitarian crisis and undertook measures to ensure that their families were able to feed themselves during these unprecedented times.
The women at the livelihood centres are slowly finding courage to come back and have started stitching face masks using eco-friendly breathable cotton fabrics. These masks are being distributed to frontline healthcare workers and within the community to help stop the
spread of the virus.
During the past few months, the centres remained shut following the government’s guidelines for the lockdown imposed to curb COVID19. However, some women took the sewing machines home and started stitching masks to earn some money. With the lockdown rules eased now, we are happy to report that the women have now slowly starting coming to the centres. The livelihood centre, besides giving these women an opportunity to learn new skills and earn a living, also provides a safe space for the women to come together and bond.
It is becoming abundantly clear that we will need all your support as many of these women
face uncertainties in the days to come, as this crisis is here to stay. The lockdown has been lifted but the livelihoods are lost and we now move from `Lockdown to Livelihoods’ to ensure that the women you support continue earning to sustain themselves and their families.
Thank you Global Givers, we look forward to your continued support.
With deep gratitude,
iPartner India Team
