Calling for Supports: Flashflood in West Sumatera

By Efsa Zulfia | Project Leader

Flashflood in West Sumatera
Flashflood in West Sumatera

Saturday (11/5/2024) and Sunday (12/5/2024) are both sorrowful days in West Sumatra. Continuous torrential rainfall and overflowing river water triggered flash floods and landslides in this area. Over 52 individuals died as a result of this huge calamity.

The districts of Agam, Tanah Datar, and Padang Panjang were the hardest impacted, with 44 people killed and dozens more missing. More than 3,000 individuals have been forced to evacuate their ruined houses. In Agam Regency, 1,159 people sought asylum, while Tanah Datar Regency had 2,039 refugees.

The situation in the refugee camp is highly concerning. Refugees lack essential resources and needs for survival. Because of the devastation, they were obliged to seek emergency assistance. The Asar Humanity volunteer team swiftly responded, sending two emergency teams to help with the evacuation and offer first aid. They can't do it on their own, though. They need all of our help.

We ask you all to join us in supporting our brothers and sisters in refugee camps. Your contribution can provide food, clean water, blankets, and other necessities for families who have lost everything.

Every little bit of assistance is much appreciated by people in need. Let us demonstrate our concern and camaraderie by donating a portion of our food to them. Do not allow them to be hungry or in need at this difficult time.

Warm Regards,
