Disaster Relief: Feeding the Hungry in Honduras

We used the money we raised in through GlobalGiving last spring to support a Save the Children, Honduras program to bolster food security, help small business, and provide dental hygiene supplies and education in rural communties of the departamento de Intibuca, Honduras. The activies supported were as follows:

• 150 farmers received continued support of fertilizers to increase production of crops, approximately $40 per farm.  
• 28 families, whose heads of household are women owning 4 small cooperative bakeries, received monetary support to expand/support their existing operations with items such as cooking supplies, tortilla press, stoves, and coolers.  Approximately $2000 will be divided to support these small business owners.  
• 1816 school age children received dental care kits and oral hygiene education.  Approx cost is $1 per child.   

A complete report of the projects we supported in Honduras is attached. This year, 2021-2021, we will continue to support helping the poorest families get supplementary food, helping farmers grow basic grains, medical referrals for the sick or injured who cannot get to a hospital, and small business grants. Missoula Medical Aid has worked in rural Honduras for 23 years, and we have trusted Honduran partners and staff who can get a lot done with very little money.
