Organize Menstrual Hygiene Awareness and Support Session
Protibandhi Shishu Shiekkha O Paricharja Samity (PROSHIPS) is a women-led non-profit organization working in the remote northern region of Bangladesh, where many families experience poverty, limited healthcare access, and social exclusion. Girls with disabilities are among the most disadvantaged and often lack access to menstrual hygiene information, sanitary products, and supportive services.
During this reporting period, on the dated 30th June 2026 PROSHIPS successfully organized a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness and Support Session for girls with disabilities and their parents at the organization's auditorium. The event aimed to improve knowledge of menstrual health and hygiene, reduce stigma, and promote safe menstrual management practices.
A government representative attended the session as the resource person and provided practical information on menstrual health, personal hygiene, proper use and disposal of sanitary pads, and the importance of maintaining dignity and good health during menstruation. The representative appreciated PROSHIPS for organizing such an important initiative for a highly marginalized group and encouraged families to continue supporting girls with disabilities through open communication and proper care.
Following the awareness session, participants received sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene materials to help them practice what they had learned. The distribution ensured that girls from low-income households could better manage their menstrual periods safely and confidently.
Parents, particularly mothers of girls with intellectual disabilities, actively participated in the discussion. They expressed heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to learn practical caregiving techniques and shared that the session increased their confidence in supporting their daughters during menstruation. Many parents emphasized that this was the first time they had received disability-inclusive menstrual hygiene education and requested that similar sessions be organized regularly.
