Many people facing emotional distress do not seek help due to stigma, fear, or lack of information. In low income communities many residents are unaware of mental health support services. This project will organize a door to door community education campaign in Abuja during World Suicide Prevention Day. Volunteers will visit households to share information on mental health, warning signs of suicide, and where people can seek help.
Suicide is a serious public health concern worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, many people experiencing mental distress do not receive the help they need. In many communities lack of awareness and stigma prevent individuals from discussing mental health struggles or seeking support.
The project will conduct door to door visits in communities in Abuja during World Suicide Prevention Day. Volunteers will speak with households about mental health, warning signs of suicide, and ways to seek help. Educational leaflets will be distributed and residents will be guided on where to find local support services.
Community education can help reduce stigma around mental health and encourage open discussion. When residents understand warning signs and know where to seek help, people facing emotional distress are more likely to receive support. Increased awareness can help communities support individuals at risk and promote safer environments for everyone.
