Joy in Motion

Joy in Motion

As we start a new year it is critical, we reflect on 2023 and how we have collaborated to provide birthwork and care to adolescent parents over the year. I would like to pause and reflect on the word momentum. We are in the thick of the dreary snow season in winter filled with blistering cold. When I think of momentum, I think of how one snowflake builds in mass and as the flurries continue to fall from the sky that small flake can eventually gain enough momentum to turn into a snowball or the base of the snowman. That ball or base can help hold up the snowman for weeks. We have all seen it… driving down the road and all the snow has melted from the front of a muddy lawn, but you clearly can see the base sitting with twig arms and a scarf in a lump.

Supporters like yourself give our program momentum. We know that this work takes gumption and gall. The audacity we must have to continue our efforts to uplift better birthing experiences for ALL. This work means so much to our community and how we can create healing villages that help families thrive through chaos, crises, and JOY.

In June 2023 we hosted a movie screening of the film Birthing Justice. The room was filled with supporters who gathered to see this film at our local zoo. After the screening we hosted a panel discussion with a dynamic group of women (maternal and reproductive health experts) who are familiar with birthwork and the advocacy we continue to uplift to reduce black maternal health disparities. This public screening was a unifier that we want change that impacts teen mothers and want the joy that surrounds birthing in this country to be extended to people of color. Our deepest gratitude to the supporters of our project who continue to give us momentum and a strong base in this season.

Warm Winter Wishes,
