Dear Friends of Association Saint Camille,
The year 2025 ended well for the Gbedavo farm in Benin, which has been in progress for 4 years. Tentative plans are ambitious and well-considered for 2026 under new leadership at Les Amis de la Saint Camille and new farm managers in Benin.
Gbedavo 1 - 15 hectares (37 acres). Seven hectares of corn, 5 hectares of market gardening, 3 hectares of banana trees were planted. The corn will be phased out and replaced with banana trees and soybeans. These 7 hectares will require new irrigation. Three wells have been drilled and paid for thanks to many supporters. However, more fittings and piping must be purchased for the additional irrigation needs.
Gbedavo 2 - 50 hectares (124 acres). Twenty hectares of teak trees were planted with 33,000 seedlings. Four hectares of mango trees with irrigation were also planted in 2025. In 2026, 16 hectares of corn, 10 hectares of cashews, interspersed with peanuts, will be planted.
Labor costs will include land clearing and planting. Villagers and patients will be hired for weeding.
Between 1 June and 31 December 2025, $ 5,781 CAD/$4,210 USD in sales were generated. The Dassa Treatment Center benefited from corn for food.
The 2026 budget, once approved by the Les Amis de la Saint Camille board of directors, will be provided to our GlobalGiving supporters. It is anticipated that the cost of diesel and fertilizer will increase. All contingencies will be accounted for to the best extent possible.
Thank you for your participation in this exciting journey to bring dignity to mental healthcare in West Africa.
