The situation in the schools is so problematic: Many children from rural areas attend mini boarding schools, in which they often have to sleep in the classrooms this is the situation at Akaikai Primary School. There are far too few toilets, drinking water. The school has over 1034 pupils. The pupils walk 2.3Km to find clean drinking water, also lack basic infrastructure such as clean latrines and safe water supply. This is a reason for children to be absent and drop out from school eventually. Water supply is not available in school, so teachers/children have to bring water from other sources about 3Kms away. There is also a lack of washrooms and clean drinking water.
Share Child Opportunity Eastern and Northern Uganda (SCOEN) called for 2 stakeholder's meetings with purpose to introduce the project to the new sub county staff of Arapai Sub county and Akaikaiprimary school staff.
I the meeting the project implementation plan was drawn pending the aproval of the district wanter and sanitation office.
Issue raised:-
Share Child Opportunity Eastern and Northern Uganda (SCOEN) is waiting for the approved plan from the district then the MOU signed with National Water Corparation Uganda, Soroti.
