Friends,

Thanks to your support, women in Ouarkhokh now have a drip irrigation system in their cooperative garden site! Your generous donations will help cooperative members expand vegetable production and earn more money to sustain their families!

Over the past year, your donations helped CREATE! support the agricultural cooperative in Ouarkhokh and have now funded the installation of a drip irrigation system in the cooperative’s expanded garden site. Just a few weeks ago, CREATE! field technicians worked with community volunteers to install the drip irrigation system in two acres of land within the garden site. By providing access to a drip irrigation system, cooperative members can increase the amount of irrigated land in their garden plot by 75% and greatly expand their production of vegetables for both home use and sale in local markets. The drip irrigation system will help cooperative members save money, time, and labor through efficient water use.

In the past months, as they dreamed of a drip irrigation system, women continued to spend hours every day watering the garden by hand. They harvested hundreds of pounds of eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, okra, lettuce, and other vegetables. Imagine – Ouarkhokh cooperative members will now be able to accomplish so much more with the addition of a drip irrigation system.

Marieme is part of the agricultural cooperative in Ouarkhokh. She is thrilled that she now has the knowledge and opportunities that she needs to improve her life. Marieme dreams of using her new skills to “help her parents and other people in need.” She is also excited about the potential benefits of drip irrigation. She says, “we are so happy to now have the drip irrigation system in Ouarkhokh!”

Communities in rural Senegal still need your support. CREATE!’s other project on GlobalGiving also helps villagers build a sustainable future for their communities.
