By Jennie Norman | Board Chair
We are thrilled to report that not one but two of our board members are at last planning to go back to Rwanda this April. Due to travel restrictions, we have been unable to send anyone there for the past two years. This means we have been unable to get fabric into the country for our women dyers to work with, and our inventory of hand-dyed Umva scarves and wraps is virtually depleted. Without the income from selling Umva products, combined with additional pandemic related support costs for the families, Rwanda-one4one has had a challenging two years. Thanks to YOU, however, we maintained our support for the families and actually increased it to help with pandemic food aid, education pods for the children when schools were closed, and emergency medical issues.
Our founder, Nancy, is looking forward to being reunited with the families she knows so well, and one of our newest board members, who is a professional videographer, is joining her. They will participate in our April board meeting live from Rwanda via zoom and we can't wait!
In the meantime, we are making preparations for their trip, gathering used cell phones and tablets, packing fabric, and planning video and photo shoots. We can't wait to share all the news with you, our cherished supporters, when they return.
Thank you - again - for your faith and trust in our tiny, all-volunteer team. Our families are profoundly grateful for the difference you have made in their lives and their children's futures.
