Zhen-Zhen, a 5-year-old child with developmental delays, showed signs of delayed motor skills at 8–9 months old, as she was unable to sit steadily on her own. After multiple evaluations at different hospitals, her family learned that hypothyroidism was affecting her development. This diagnosis prompted her to begin a rehabilitation program three days a week at the hospital.
Following her initial rehabilitation, and to ensure she had access to more comprehensive resources, her family brought her to Eden’s Children Development Community Service Center over four years ago for scheduled therapy sessions. As her abilities improved, she later transitioned into the early intervention day program, where interaction with peers could further stimulate her development and enhance the benefits of early intervention.
When she first joined the day program, Zhen-Zhen’s walking was unsteady, she frequently fell, her speech was unclear, and she was reluctant to speak. Through intensive guidance and training from the teachers, she can now walk independently, climb stairs, express her basic needs, and even organize her own school bag. The progress she has made is tremendous.
Teachers describe Zhen-Zhen as a lively, cheerful, and strong-willed girl whose positive attitude is contagious. She adapts quickly to new environments and often takes the initiative to help her classmates, having truly become a beloved little helper in the classroom. Her parents are deeply moved by her progress and hope she will continue to learn happily and confidently take each step in her growth journey.
